APPROACH.

This organization comprises women of broad personal backgrounds with a specific commonality, so I aimed for an elegant, feminine, and welcoming site. Floral elements over lavender & light pink blocks, combined with images of mothers and children from various backgrounds, create an inviting feel. A simple system of icons ensures easy navigation for a pleasant web experience.

FEELING THE MOMS.

I sought out and conducted interviews with five different Catholic moms of different ethnographic and socioeconomic origins to gain personal insight into the challenges faced by subgroups of diverse backgrounds. I found these moms through Catholic friends and family, and some I knew personally. These ladies represented varying geographic locations as well, with parishes in Hawaii, California, Colorado, and Tennessee. I listened to some very personal struggles, some including difficult family life, that I found could be connected to their parish and technicalities of living out their Catholic vocation.

GROUPING USER CHALLENGES
AND FRUSTRATIONS.

I narrowed down the main areas in which Catholic moms seemed to need help meeting their challenges to four subgroups: Community, Family, Personal Care, and the Catholic Faith as a whole. Taking those groups, I was able to hone in on some consistent pain points, mostly involving raising their children with traditional values in a modern world, feelings of isolation, and housekeeping. One issue that presented a huge challenge was the consistent feedback concerning the internet: not only do these moms feel like they don't have much time to be on screens too often, but some repulsed the idea of regularly using the internet; this made it hard to brainstorm how a website could be helpful when the overarching pathos of the Users is that screen time should be avoided or is too difficult.

*LOGO BUILDING

TRADITIONAL AND FEMININE
BRAND IDENTITY.

To give Mothership a strong and feminine brand identity, I combined elements of the typefaces Bookman, Tiffany, and Didoni Swash. The elegant serifs, sweeping descenders, friendly terminals, and slight angle give the logo a caressing and motherly feel and energy, like that of a gentle breeze.

CONNECTING MOMS.

The result of the Mothership project is an easy-to-navigate, elegant, and woman-centered web experience for ladies of all stages of motherhood who need support, guidance, resources, and growth in their Faith in order to become the best moms they can be. The simple design and easy-to-navigate, friendly interface imagery is meant to reduce screen time and complexity, providing clean, single-page resources with minimal text and an icon system with clear headings. The project is still in its alpha testing phase, and the interactive prototype is being generated; Mothership will be updated promptly as it goes into beta testing.
