Mothership

A faith-based organization connecting and offering assistance to moms of all backgrounds

Some of Mothership's services

The Problem

Mothering in a Catholic household in the midst of a non-Catholic society can often be isolating, particularly considering the various needs of individual women. Many moms, especially those with strong faith and traditional values, feel overwhelmed and underserved by today’s physical and digital platforms. They need trustworthy help, spiritual community, and shared support—but what they find instead is fragmented groups, tone-deaf tech, and generic resources that miss the mark.

The Solution

Mothership is a resource-sharing, faith-supporting platform designed to give Catholic moms and other moms of faith what they really need: mentorship, childcare help, shared errands, prayer, and real-world connection. This is a network built not to replace community—but to revive it. Mothership is a 501(c)(3) NPO that supports mothers through volunteering, charity events, and simple companionship.

My Role

I designed Mothership as a solo designer from research through prototype—defining needs, creating a brand system, and building a clickable experience in Figma. I am currently seeking funding.

Grounded in Real Conversations

Mothership was shaped by candid interviews with real Catholic mothers. Many described feeling isolated—even in large families or vibrant parishes—without a space to truly connect with other faithful women. They expressed a desire for something deeper than surface-level chat threads or generic “mom forums.” What they wanted was spiritual kinship, meaningful support, and access to guidance rooted in Catholic truth.

They weren’t just looking for help managing chaos—they longed for clarity, reverence, and the kind of feminine strength that comes from walking closely with God. Many struggled to find trusted voices for motherhood advice in a culture that often belittles tradition, downplays the role of the mother, or undermines the sanctity of life and marriage. This insight guided our design direction.

The Mothership platform introduces a simple, welcoming way to build community, receive help, and grow in faith. Its interface is intentionally gentle, warm, and minimal—prioritizing clarity and rest. Rather than overload users with tasks or features, we focused on the essentials: personal connection, meaningful mentorship, spiritual formation, and peace of mind.

Rare Opportunity

Faithful Catholic mothers are underserved. Mothership answers a real and growing need: trusted connection, guidance, and peace of mind—without the noise of modern platforms. There’s nothing else like it.

Designing for Clarity and Human Context

This section of the site focused on simplifying access to the types of support mothers mentioned most during interviews. I prioritized visual clarity, minimal UI patterns, and strong iconography to distinguish each support category.

Instead of relying on traditional service directories or social feed layouts, I created an approachable card system and icon grid to reflect real-world needs—childcare, rides, mentoring, and spiritual life—based on what users told me they actually rely on.

Here are the services I determined would be appropriate for Mothership's functionality, based on user feedback:

Mentoring & Guidance

Local Childcare Network

Shared Rides & Errands

Spiritual
Community Life

Faith-Based
Learning Support

Events & Play
Group Planning

Faith Formation
Resources

Domestic Support Exchange

Mapping the Core Support Needs

To communicate the types of real-life help Mothership needed to offer, I created this early visual to summarize the five most important categories of support surfaced in interviews and journey mapping.

Each icon reflects a core need mothers expressed: spiritual growth, emotional connection, practical logistics, or relief in daily routines. I used this cluster diagram to help stakeholders and teammates quickly grasp the structure of the network and the user’s role at the center.

This sketch helped align the team before full UI flows were built, giving us a shared picture of what Mothership would actually help moms do.

What It Looks Like to Feel Supported

The Mothership interface was designed to feel warm, calm, and familiar—like something built by moms, for moms. From the homepage to the planner, every screen is simple to navigate and gentle on the eyes, helping users feel at ease whether they’re seeking help or just checking in.

Visual Rhythm and Reflection

For a faith-based support site, I felt it was important to include moments of beauty, encouragement, and quiet throughout. This section offers a brief pause and reflects the tone I wanted the site to carry on every page.

Homepage as Overview

This scroll shows how the homepage introduces the platform clearly through sections for services, testimonials, and community. I designed the flow to guide new visitors from mission to action without friction.

Visually Appealing Intro

I wanted to open the About page with a cycling word animation to lead into the brand story. This sets a tone that’s warm, inclusive, and quietly expressive. It’s a small motion detail that reinforces the site’s purpose before any scrolling happens to read about Mothership's purpose and values.

Necessary Forms

This essential form keeps fields clear and the CTA simple. Recurring and anonymous options are available without clutter. A persistent Donate button ensures visibility site-wide, which is crucial to a website for a non-profit organization.

Clarity in Options Presented

I structured the services screens to support both women seeking the service and those offering it. The side-by-side layout keeps the choice simple and visually equal.

Final Product

The Mothership prototype brings together research, interviews, and visual design into a focused experience for mothers seeking support. It showcases key flows like onboarding, service browsing, and registration—built to feel trustworthy, welcoming, and easy to use. You can explore how it works in the prototype below.

Results

Mothership was shaped and refined through honest, heartfelt feedback from Catholic mothers navigating modern challenges. I conducted early usability tests with mothers from different seasons of life—some expecting their first child, others homeschooling a houseful. What they shared wasn’t just about features; it was about the feeling they got from using it.

Many were relieved to find a space that didn’t push noise or judgment, but instead gave quiet confidence and real support. The ability to explore resources, request mentorship, or simply see they weren’t alone offered both practical help and peace of mind. Several testers mentioned how rare it was to find a tool built with their values in mind—and how much that changed their willingness to open up.

These early sessions were vital. They not only confirmed our direction but helped fine-tune the tone, interactions, and visual flow. Every insight—from a moment of hesitation to a word of encouragement—was used to ensure Mothership feels as welcoming as the women behind it.

Key Learnings

Mothers don't just want resources — they crave connection, clarity, and a place that understands their values. Building trust isn’t just about design clarity, it’s about emotional resonance. Voice, tone, and simplicity were everything. Many Catholic moms don't even think of seeking help until they get overwhelmed, and though they can find strength in their Faith, there's a human element that Mothership seeks to help address—Mothership is about connecting people.
